Campus networked information systems in Spain: a student-centred countrywide ranking and cluster classification
Abstract
The availability of broad characterisations of campus information systems for students could be as useful for those responsible for the strategic management of higher education centres as for the orientation of potential university students. First we describe and contextualise a characterisation model for on-line campus information systems for students. This serves as a framework of conceptual reference for fieldwork on Spanish universities. Information was gathered by means of structured visits to institutional websites and structured interviews with undergraduate students. Analysing the information collected enables us to position the institutions individually and to compare them, as well as obtain a descriptive view of the whole group of Spanish universities from an informational point of view. The universities were also classified into groups with homogeneous characteristics, in the sense of their informational and organisational aspects. Finally, we discuss future research on this subject.
